VP OF ASSUMED REINSURANCE UNDERWRITING - Midwest

The responsibilities of the Vice President of Underwriting for our Assumed Reinsurance Unit include:

  • Lead, development and manage the Assumed Reinsurance unit in order to provide superior service to our brokers and clients.
  • Responsible for managing relationships with distribution channels and ultimate customers.
  • Assist with the continued development of the underwriting solutions approach, which will focus on how to address unique or specific coverage needs of our clients or potential clients.
  • Actively participate in Leadership Team responsibilities related to the development to the corporate strategic plan, including specific plans for the Assumed Reinsurance Unit.
  • Lead the Assumed Reinsurance unit to appropriate execution of the financial plans and department guidelines, as well as actively develop and monitor the corporate forecast and budget plans.
  • Participate in creating the financial forecast plans by providing recommendations for renewal rate projections, new business targets and account level considerations for the Assumed Reinsurance unit.
  • Lead, develop and manage the Assumed Reinsurance staff in order that they fully understand the corporate and departmental objectives and plans, and successfully carry out their respective responsibilities.

The required knowledge and skills are:

Formal Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 15 years work experience, preferably in the insurance industry
  • Minimum 5 years management experience

Strategic Planning and Analysis

  • Advanced strategic planning/evaluation skills including developing functional plans
  • Extensive knowledge of the Actuarial, Claims, Marketing and Client Services functional strategic objectives.
  • Strong, positive working relationship and line of communication with department head of each function listed above.

Leadership

  • Advanced ability to coach and develop personnel to routinely meet/exceed stated standards of performance
  • Advanced oral presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

Management

  • Advanced skill at developing well-defined sales and underwriting strategies and resulting tactical territory plans
  • Solid understanding of consultative sales technique
  • Strong probing/listening skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of various marketing approaches and when/how to apply them to differentiate company brand
  • Strong relationship building skills, particularly with peers inside/outside the company
