Recognized and profitable health insurance carrier is seeking a director level accounting / finance senior manager for their Dallas operation. Reporting to the Controller, the Director of Statutory Reporting will have responsibility for all NAIC and state insurance regulatory financial filings. The Director will be responsible for the Company's statutory ledgers and determining the appropriate statutory accounting treatment for the Company's business. The Director position is a significant senior management level role in the organization involving interaction with the external auditors, state financial examiners and other regulators, other functional department leaders in the Company, and the statutory company board of directors.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the preparation of the insurance company statutory filings on both a quarterly and annually basis filed with the NAIC and states where the company does business
- Manage the accounting and reporting on reinsurance agreements
- Manage the preparation of additional supplemental required state insurance filings on a quarterly and annual basis
- Coordinate the receipt of financial information from various operating divisions in order to prepare consolidated financial filings
- Coordinate interaction with state agencies on financial matters, including Financial Exams
- Coordinate and administer the annual statutory audit by the company's independent public accounting firm
- Coordinate with the Company's Actuarial department to account for insurance assets and liabilities, including reserves, IBNR, active life reserves, unearned premium, due and deferred premium, and policy loans among other items
Qualifications:
- Candidates will have a minimum of ten years of experience in an accounting management level role and five years of experience in insurance statutory financial reporting
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting. A master's degree is preferred.
- CPA is required. No exceptions!
- Strong communication skills - written, oral and presentation - and the ability to effectively run a meeting with management level participants from outside the accounting department
- Proficient with large scale ERP accounting systems, such as Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, spreadsheets, and statutory reporting packages such as Booke & Co.
- Analytical skills to include the review of various financial statements and explain fluctuations period to period; review of product level income statements and explaining the relationship between appropriate balance sheets accounts and income statement accounts
- Excellent leadership and people development skills.
