WORKERS COMPENSATION CLAIMS MANAGER - Dallas

In this role, you will supervise a Work Comp/Nonsubscription (Occupational Accident) claims team in the effective and efficient handling of claims to ensure the delivery of quality service to customers while protecting the assets of the company.

  • Responsible for the direction of the Claims Team to ensure consistent delivery of services that meets or exceeds customer expectations and complies with regulatory and company standards.
  • Supervises the work activities of team's personnel in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating, estimating and settling claims in compliance with established standards and expectations.
  • Provides technical guidance to team members including ongoing training and employee development to team members and ensures all receive communication of corporate/department policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves, within assigned authority limits, claim expenses and settlements that exceed the claim representatives' granted authority; appropriately refers claim expenses and settlements that exceed personal authority limits for approval.
  • Monitors and evaluates reserves for claims within the unit to ensure that they are adequate and that reserve adjustments are made, when necessary, consistent with established time frames.
  • Conducts regular reviews of pending and closed files to determine whether claims are handled appropriately; identifies areas for improvement and discusses individual training and development needs as necessary.
  • Attend Mediation and/or Arbitration proceedings as a designated Company representative on an as needed basis. Some travel within Texas required.
  • Resolves complaints, problems, and coverage questions which have been escalated through the team.
  • Prepares monthly reports on quality control, pending and closed file reviews and reserve activity to track and communicate unit performance relating to production, opportunity areas and significant achievements.
  • Selects and monitors the performance of external vendors.
  • Administers to the human resource needs of the unit by hiring, training, motivating and retaining staff, evaluating staff performance, encouraging staff development, establishment of objectives, recommending salary actions, and, as necessary, developing performance improvement plans and recommending individual terminations of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience in management of workers' compensation / nonsubscription adjusters
  • 7+ years adjusting workers' compensation or occupational accident (nonsub) claims, scoping losses, and completing reserves.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general insurance policy coverage and state regulations, claims handling systems and thorough knowledge claims investigation techniques, medical and legal aspects of claims and teamwork.
  • People management skills including interviewing skills, training, team building, and performance management.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication; candidates with bi-lingual abilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Able to track claims activity and properly document all actions.
  • Able to plan, prioritize and organize claims workload for a unit.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exposure to commercial transportation classes is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU).
  • Current Texas Adjuster's License is required.
