FINANCIAL CONTROLLER - Dallas, TX

Recognized and growing Property and Casualty Insurance company is seeking a Controller for their Dallas operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform administrative functions: Manage staffing needs, employee selection and evaluation; prepare job requirements/standards; provide direction for personnel; oversee development and implementation of training of Finance staff daily; provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual statements and State Insurance department filings; prepare and distribute quarterly financial statements and file statements with states, statistical agencies and inter-company on a quarterly basis.
  • Assist in the preparation/distribution of monthly and quarterly statement package; prepare monthly journal and worksheets; run the general ledger; compile the monthly statement package; prepare corporate tax calculation for monthly reporting package; provide information on tax package annually for corporation tax filing.
  • Reply to internal/external requests for information for financial statements; perform special projects (i.e., management information, internal control, A+ billing) weekly.
  • Run month end loss reports; assist in preparation of monthly loss/loss expense reserve calculation and annual budget package; review expenses monthly and report on budget variances. (10%) Team effort.
  • Identify and define company and/or department problems; develop action plans to solve problems; marshal resources to implement solutions.
  • Maintain subsidiary ledger of balances due on excess losses; follow-up on collection; reconcile the general ledger account monthly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or equivalent preferred
  • CPA required
  • 5 or more years' property/casualty insurance industry general accounting experience
  • 2 or more years' experience in financial accounting management
  • GAAP and Statutory Accounting experience
  • Advanced ability to effectively communicate with all company stakeholders both internal and external
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills  
  • Advanced skill utilizing MS Excel
